Warren White

Warren was a local icon and a guitar maker of legendary proportions.  Due to personal issues he lived as a homeless person and died tragically in a fire keeping himself warm.  Along with Eugene and Tony Murray his career is emblematic of the first wave of great American Classical guitar makers in California.  This guitar is to my ears the best sounding old world (Santos Hernandez) flamenco guitar I have ever heard.  Its tone is dry and crisp.  I'm in the process of putting geared tuners on in place of the old world tuners due to their ease of play and 5 to 1 ratio, allowing for perfect fine tuning.

John Gilbert

JGilbert8.jpg

From the Jim Forderer collection www.laguitarracalifornia.com/Default.asp?Page=139.

John Gilbert sold this guitar to James Forderer. It was shown as part of The Forderer collection  the 2009 Guitarria.
Jim and John are close friends and Jim treasured the instrument as John's last instrument made in collaboration with his son William.  After that time William went on to launch his own brilliant guitar-making career, unassisted by his father.

John Gilbert was the undisputed American master during the 20-year span of his career.  John is currently retired.  His instruments were played by more professional concert guitarists in this country than any other luthier of his day.  Such luminaries as Fisk, the Assads, Fred Hand and Isben have played his instruments.  David Russell used his instruments exclusively for the first 15 years of his career.  Bill Gilbert is also currently retired.  This cedar top, Indian rosewood 650mm scale length concert classical guitar is a fine collectible instrument suitable for any virtuoso.

Marcelo Barbero (hijo)
1979

I received this guitar set up as a Flamenco Negra.  I personally think that it would serve better as a Classical (higher action).  The guitar is re-finished on the top and has several repaired cracks.  The restoration while adequate is not as good  as it will be when I am finished re-repairing it.  I will consider offers above $5,000 in its current condition.  But it will be worth significantly more a few monthe down the road.  Other dealers list only inquire when the price of these guitars are available.  The father's guitars are priceless heirlooms approaching 6 figures.
